Colbayns High School has a clear vision and sense of purpose that is summed up in our strapline “Working Together For Success”.
Firstly, there is the emphasis on doing your best and making a good commitment to your education and all that the school has to offer inside and outside of the classroom that is summed up in the word “Working”. We actively promote the work ethic: we know that children will only get the best from school if they come ready to give their all. We also know that they can gain a great deal from all of the extra-curricular activities of the school through clubs, trips, expeditions, camps, productions and sport. As well as wanting young people to do well academically, we are committed to helping them become successful young adults ready to make a good contribution to society. Staff at Colbayns work very hard: they, too, are committed to the highest standards in the classroom and give readily of their time to allow extra-curricular activity to take place.
“Working Together” points at the truth that for a young person to do well at school there needs to be a partnership – a compact if you like – between school, pupil and parent. Without the help and support of the family, especially the encouragement and disciplined environment that comes from the home, young people will be less likely to do as well as they might. Colbayns High School seeks to positively involve parents in working with the school in supporting young people to success.
“Together” points at the community aspects of the life of the school and its involvement in and support of the local community. As a school we actively promote tolerance, understanding and the readiness to serve others. For example, our charity work raises around £5,000 per year. Many of our pupils undertake voluntary community service or work in school to help other pupils. This is excellent!
Of course, if you belong to a community there are obligations upon you as an individual that you must fulfil if you are to be entitled to all that the community can give you as a person. Old fashioned values like honesty, reliability and integrity are very important to us. Our FIVE SCHOOL RULES set out what belonging to the school community means. The summary form of these Rules highlights the school’s key values and expectations:
- Treat Others With Respect;
- Be Polite;
- Be Helpful to Teachers, Adults and One Another;
- Do your Best in Lessons
- Act in a Safe & Considerate Way.
Aiming high, at whatever level, is a core aspiration of the school. We want all young people to aim at success in the classroom, in performance, on the sports field, in their work experience and community service. We work hard at creating opportunities for success and seek to reward endeavour and celebrate achievement across the board. As a school we actively promote the achievement and success culture and believe that the Education Action Zone’s motto “Everyone Can Achieve More” is absolutely true.
Colbayns High School is an improving school that sets itself clear targets and is committed to providing the highest quality of education possible for the young people in our care. We work hard to turn vision into reality and value the support of parents, the local community, LEA and the EAZ in helping us to achieve our goals |
